Dental Implants can be used to permanently replace a single tooth or every tooth. Implants are made of medical grade surface-treated titanium. The same titanium that has been used by physicians in joint replacements for years. These titanium posts, inserted into your jaw bone, are the most versatile and predictable fixture we can use to restore your smile.
If 2-6 implants are placed, we can attach them to a denture and replace all of your upper or lower missing teeth. The implants give your denture the strength and stability it needs.Replacing a single missing tooth is very similar. One implant is placed in the area of the missing tooth and a crown is permanently placed over it. The implant serves as the root of the tooth, and the cemented crown over the implant is what you see in the mirror. Unlike a bridge, the implant does not affect the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth.
Crowns are permanent restorations made of porcelain or metal used to restore and protect a single tooth. Because they are permanently cemented, you brush and floss them like a normal tooth. They can be either tooth colored or gold depending on the patient’s request. Crowns can also be placed on a dental implant.
Bridges are permanent restorations made of porcelain or metal used to replace a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. Because they are permanently cemented, you brush and floss them almost like normal teeth. They can be either tooth colored or gold depending on the patient’s request. Inlays & Onlays are permanently cemented or bonded restorations used to restore a part of your tooth. They are used when a significant amount of tooth needs to be replaced due to decay, fracture or breakdown. Inlays & onlays are often a reliable alternative to a full coverage crown provided there is enough remaining tooth structure.
A root canal is a procedure where the nerve of a tooth is gently removed from the canal of the tooth’s root. That canal is then filled in with a different inert material called gutta percha. A filling or crown is then needed to support and reinforce the tooth to prevent further breakdown.
Root canals are usually needed when a tooth has a history of trauma, a large cavity, is fractured or is infected (abscessed). The doctors at Hillside will refer some root canals to the root canal specialist, the Endodontist, in difficult cases.
Extracting (removing) a tooth is often necessary for many reasons. Large decay, abscess and fracture a few. Extractions are sometimes needed on an emergency basis to relieve pain. The doctors at Hillside will do their best to address any emergency that arises but may need to refer to a specialist (oral surgeon) if there is a need.
Partial Dentures (“Partials”) are made for a patient who is missing some but not all of their teeth. Partials replace those missing teeth by holding on, or “clasping,” onto the remaining healthy teeth. This is a good, less-expensive option of tooth replacement that will restore function, esthetics and self esteem. For those patients who are candidates, another option for tooth replacement of some missing teeth are dental implants.
Full Dentures (sometimes called a “Plate”) are made for a patient who is missing all of their upper or lower teeth. Full dentures require suction and sometimes adhesive to stay in place. This is a decent, less-expensive option of tooth replacement that will restore function, esthetics and self esteem. For those patients who are candidates, another option for tooth replacement of all missing teeth are dental implants.
